You must partition the drive using the Apple Partition Map scheme if you want it to boot on a PowerPC Mac. But in the fine print I discovered that I need a DVD drive to install it. I probably don't need the DVD drive to use it, just to install it. How stupid is that? I don't have a DVD drive and I'm not going to buy one just for one installation. It's not stupid. The GarageBand package is too big to fit on a CD-ROM.

Thanks, Al It doesn't sound like a SATA issue, if it were you would get a kernel panic. Since it managed to boot past ALSA, I would suggest a video problem. As much as I hate to say it, it may be easier for you to attempt another installation paying attention to HOW the graphics are set up.
